How to Lift Sagging Breasts with the Right Bra

Chantelle Amazone Underwire Bra 2101 42C/Ivory
So you've got sagging breasts. And you want to do something about it.  But how do you lift sagging breasts without resorting to surgery? And which is the best bra for sagging breasts, anyway?

You may also be wondering why breasts sag in the first place. As you get older, you may gain weight or just lose muscle tone, and gravity starts to pull down on your chest. Pregnancy and breastfeeding can also leave breasts deflated or drooping. And, you may also find your breasts sag after significant weight loss.

Or, sometimes, it's just because you have a large, heavy bust to start with and it needs more support and lifting power than a small bust does.

All of that can mean that your breasts are not quite where you want them to be and you end up with sagging breasts pulling down your shirts and not looking the way you want to.

How to Lift Sagging Breasts

While a bra can't prevent or reverse sagging breasts (you would need surgery for that), there are some steps you can take to help reduce the droopy appearance and get more lift so you'll look and feel better. You don't even necessarily need a new bra.

First, make sure you "swoop and scoop" (manually placing each breast in a cup and centering the tissue before you fasten the back of the bra).  Correct positioning can help reduce the appearance of drooping.

If your breasts still sag, even when you are wearing your bra correctly, it may be time for a new one.  Bras do stretch out, and if your band is loose, and the front of the bra pulls away from your chest, that bra is no longer doing the job it's supposed to do.

By the way, high quality bras can last for years if they're rotated regularly. I have a couple that are over 10 years old.  Just don't wear the same one every day or every other day, give them time to rest.

However, eventually even the best bra will start to stretch and lose its elasticity.  Once it does, it's no longer giving you the support you need, and you won't feel comfortable wearing it, as it will start to slide around on your body.

In that case, time for a new bra!

Best Bra for Sagging Breasts

There are a number of bra constructions features that can give you better support and lift for sagging breasts. This includes underwires, panels or slings inside the cups, side support panels or boning, and even something as simple as a seam.  The seam changes the shape of the bra and helps push you up. Even the material used to manufacture the bra can make a difference.  Simplex, powermesh and other stronger, sturdier fabrics can all add additional support and help lift sagging breasts.

You'll probably want bras with supportive underwires. A bra with an underwire will raise everything up and offer superior lift compared to nearly all non-wired bras.  Better lift means less sagging when you wear the bra.

Another tip, look for bras with extra material (called panels or slings) under or around the cups.  This is also important if you are a larger cup size.  The panels underneath elevate your breasts and reduce the saggy look.

The slings are extra pieces of fabric either under the cups, above the band, or even around the entire cup. Sometimes they are sewn between layers of fabric (so you can't see them). Other bras add the extra material as an additional layer inside the cup.

Bras with side panels or boning help push your tissue forward. That keeps it away from your underarms and corrects east-west problems.  The panels also add extra support. This is especially important if you are a large cup size.

Vertical or angled seams can also help lift and shape, and give you a better décolletage.

Also keep an eye on the type of material used to construct the bra. A strong "control" fabric such as simplex (think control pantyhose) will support and lift better than a light nylon would. Similarly, a bra made of a stiffer material, like a t-shirt bra, will keep you more secure and hide sagging and deflation.

If you want more lift in your life, here's a list of bras that will do the trick. I've sorted them by figure type and noted which features will give you the best fit and lift based on your shape.

Best Bras to Lift Large Sagging Breasts

(short torso)

Chantelle Amazone Underwire Bra 2101 42C/Ivory

This bra is a long-time Chantelle bestseller. It pushes forward, and lifts so everything faces front (this is a slightly "retro" style, so you'll get a look that's slightly conical, rather than round, particularly if you're not round to start with).

You'll get better projection, and it will raise your breasts up and away from your stomach, making you look thinner.

The seams across the cups provide lift and support, while the sheer mesh lace and scalloped edging on the upper cups add a touch of elegance. There are also side panels to help push you forward and improve projection.

It has shorter underwires than most bras, so it's perfect for short women with larger breasts or full figures. Shorter underwires won't dig into your arms the way standard wires do.

EU sizes 32B to 44F.  Available in black and ivory.

Fantasie Women's Smoothing Seamless Balcony Bra, Nude, 30D

Smooth, polished, and simple, the only decoration is a small bow in the front. There's no padding and no seams, just lots of lift (great if you sag), and nothing to show through your clothes.

A good choice if you have a short upper body, with breasts placed relatively high on your chest, as the underwires, straps, and sides are shorter. It's molded, not contoured, so the cups are pre-shaped, but not thick or padded.

Note that the center panel is narrow, so it's best if you are close-set.

The bands are running a bit big, so you may want to sister size down a band size and up a cup size.  UK sizes 30-38 D to G 40 D-F and it comes in white, beige, and black.

Fit Note

Molded vs. Contoured Bras

It's easy to get confused between these two styles, so here's an explanation.

The fabric on a molded bra is heated over a form and usually gives you a more rounded shape than a cut and sewn bra. However, it is still pliable, soft, and relatively lightweight.

A contour bra (sometimes called a t-shirt bra) is thicker and offers better nipple coverage. It will keep pretty much the same shape whether you are wearing it or not and the fabric has much less "give." It's good under t-shirts and will also help hide uneven or shallow breasts.

Panache womens Panache Women's Envy Balconnet Lace (7285) Balconette Bra, Ivory, 28E US

Drop dead gorgeous with fantastic lift and support.  You'll look like you've lost weight, without doing a thing. And it has an astonishing array of full bust sizes, from a 28 band to a K cup!

It has relatively short underwires, so it's great if you are short or have a shorter torso. It won't dig in under your arms or poke you. And the straps are fully adjustable up to a G cup (somewhat less so after that), so you can get that right too. A leotard back keeps the straps in place too.

Side support panels push you forward and together, while a powermesh back smooths out lumps.

UK sizes 28F-HH, 30-40 D, DD, E, F, FF, G, GG, H , HH, J, JJ, and K! Colors are chestnut, lilac, slate, ice blue, purple, slate, chai, ivory, and black, with some additional fashion colors.

Fantasie Women's Fusion Underwire Full Coverage Side Support Bra, Cinnamon, 30D

The keys to this bra's support, and great lift for sagging breasts, are the four-part cups and the vertical seaming.  Side boning and panels built into the cups, pushes you forward, and the seam design and placement keeps everything up where it belongs.

The wires are wide, so they are more comfortable, especially if you are full-busted and have large breasts on a small frame. They also sit low on your body, so they won't dig into your underarms.

Straps are fully adjustable, so you can get them short enough to fit a shorter upper torso.  This is a decidedly non-fussy bra, with no decoration other than a subtle shadow stripe and a tiny charm between the cups.

Available in white, blush, cinnamon, sand, roast coffee, black cherry, red, navy, and black in UK sizes 30-38D-HH, and 40D-FF.

Bras That Lift Deflated Breasts After Weight Loss or Pregnancy

(average height/large bust)

Chantelle Women's Rive Gauche Full Coverage Bra

Beautiful and super-supportive.  The lace doesn't itch and the angled seams are barely noticeable.  So, you get the look of a t-shirt bra with the superior lift of a multi-part cup.

It's even lined (more support and less show through).  The larger sizes have lycra for more support on heavier breasts.

Better lift and support will not only lift sagging breasts; this bra will make you look thinner.  The angled seams give great support, help center your bust, and provide lift, with a rounded, more natural looking shape.

The tops of the cups are slightly stretchy so they will adjust to better match your shape. It's like getting a custom fit. The lower section is made of stiffer material for additional support and shaping.

Side panels furnish more support, minimize bulges, and push your bust up and forward. It's like an anti-gravity device for your chest.

Comes in black, ivory, and pale gray in EU sizes 32C-H; 34C-I; 36C-I, 38C-I; 40C-I, 42 C-H, and 44D-H.

Panache Women's Plus Size Clara Lace Full Cup Bra, Crystal Blue, 28 D

This is just... spectacular. But under all those good looks lies superior support, great lift for sagging breasts, and a wonderful fit.  The cut-and-sewn cups have both vertical and arched seams for a flattering rounded shape and excellent support.  The cups also feature inner slings which will boost your breast tissue up and camouflage sagging breasts.

An arched center makes this bra more comfortable if you have a larger stomach.  Plus, there's control fabric in the back and sides to help hide bulges.

UK sizes 30D-40J in peacock blue, crystal blue, black, sienna, dove, pink/champagne and many other fashion colors (not all colors in all sizes).

Chantelle Women's Hedona Seamless Unlined Bra, Skin, 32B

A smooth, comfortable bra embellished with just a bit of lace between the cups and along the front of the straps.  The cups give fantastic support and lift, plus a smooth, rounded looking shape. So you look great, without adding any extra bulk.

The arched center panel is more comfortable for women with larger stomachs. Boning on the sides gives added stability and support, but isn't stiff or hard. It's also got a minimizing effect, but won't flatten you.

The straps can be adjusted along their full length, so you can get just the right fit. Available in ivory, black, beige, and pale pink in EU sizes 32B-G, 34B-G, 36B-G, 38B-G, 40B-F, and 42C-E.

Full Figure Bras to Lift Sagging Breasts

Olga Women's Plus Size Luxury Lift Underwire Bra, Bright Raspberry, 38D

This bra is seamless and smooth, except for a lace detail at the bottom of the cups. That lace hides extra support to lift you back up where you belong.

There's an extra soft lining inside for comfort too. It also has a leotard back so the straps won't slide off, even if your back isn't entirely straight or you have sloping shoulders.

I got this for my mom in the raspberry color as well as a few more basic shades. She loves them.

Comes in black, leopard print, butterscotch, mink, white, ivory, lilac pindot, beige dots, midnight blue dot,  pink dots, rose, and raspberry in US sizes 36C-DD, 38C-DD, 40C-DD, and 43D-DD.

Vanity Fair Women's Plus Size Illumination Full Figure Zoned-in Support Bra (36C-44D), Underwire-Beige, 36D

If you prefer a more streamlined style, this bra has no extra fluff, just satin trim along the neckline. It's smooth, so it will work well under t-shirts and fitted tops. There's a bit of elastic along the cup edges for a better fit contoured to your bust line.

The straps are wide and padded to be more comfortable. There's also an extra lining inside the bra for comfort and modesty.

The wide, elasticated sides and back will help reduce back fat and eliminate bumps, and adjust to your shape.

Slings incorporated inside the cup improve lift and support and help reduce the appearance of sagging breasts and provide extra lift.

It comes in fifteen different colors and prints, so you'll never get bored: white, beige, steel violet, black, navy, cream, pale leopard, brown leopard, stone lace, violet, violet leopard, black leopard, purple, grey leopard, and mauve; US sizes 36C-DD, 38C-DD, 40C-DD, 42C-DD.

Bali Women's Live It Up Seamless Underwire Bra, Soft Taupe,34 C US
This bra gives your sagging breasts two kinds of lift: one from underneath the cups and also support from slings in the sides. The slings push everything up and forward. They're cleverly hidden under discrete petals on the sides of the cups so they don't show.  The straps and underwires are padded so they're more comfortable against your skin.

Stretchy cups will also minimize the look of sagging and give you a better fit if one side is larger than the other.  Since the underwires are wrapped, they'll be more comfortable and less likely to rub against your skin.  The bandless design and arched center are also more comfortable if you have a larger stomach.

Available in lots of colors including the basics, as well as red, caribbean blue, navy, purple, several shades of pink, jacquard prints, a marbelized print, and dots.  US sizes 34C-Dd, 36B-DDD, 38B-DDD, 40C-DDD, and 42C-DDD.

Wacoal womens Awareness Full Figure Underwire Bra, Sand

Get lift, shaping, and just a wee bit of minimizing to give you a better profile (and make it easier to button your shirts).

There are no seams to show through, and the wire is hidden inside a special channel, so it won't push against your skin. It's also got an arched center, and no band, making it more comfortable if you have a large stomach. There's no padding either, just a light lining for modesty.

The larger sizes (DDD and up) have an extra sling inside for even more lift and support for drooping breasts.  If you're close-set, this is a good choice, since the center panel is tall and narrow.

Comes in US sizes 32D-G, 34, 36, 38, 40 C-I; and 42-44 C-H in a lovely floral pattern.  The colors include ivory, sand, cappuccino, blue, gray, beige, rose, violet, plum, and black.

Elomi Matilda Banded Plunge Underwire Bra (8900),36JJ,Rose

If I were the right size to wear this bra, I'd buy it in a New York minute.

Semi-sheer mesh on the tops of the cups, with a pretty dot detail, and a plunging neckline make this bra a stunner. The cups are edged with elastic for a better fit on saggy breasts.

The vertical seams create great lift for sagging breasts (or heavy ones) while the arched seams give you a rounded uplifted shape. The panels on the sides push you forward and keep your breast tissue in front, not under your arms.

It's also got a J-hook in the back, so you can wear it as a racerback. That hook has a brand-new feature too. You can slide it up and down (just like the slide on a regular strap), so it's easier to adjust.

UK sizes 32GG-46DD in leopard, white, pearl, pink, red, berry, black and some additional colors in broken sizes.

Large Band Small Cup Bras for Breasts that Sag

Full Figure Plus Size MagicLift Original Support Bra Wirefree #1000 Mocha

No wires to dig into your ribs, just a soft band that's specially designed for more lift and comfort even without the wire. The cups are topped with lace and it has extra supportive straps and cushioning for comfort and support.

The simplex fabric and supportive sling inside the lower part of the cups helps give better support and improves the lift, whether your breasts are heavy or sagging or both.  Arched seams give you a more rounded, youthful looking appearance and extra support. And, the criss-crossed construction provides improved lift (even without wires). Glamorise excels at this.

The center is wide, so best for wider-set breasts. This also comes in full figure sizes, but it does have the rare 42A-C, 44-50 B and C, and 52-56 C sizes. The full range is UK 36, 38B-I; 40C-I; 42A-I; 44-50 B-I; 52-56 C-I. You can choose from white, burgundy, silver, violet, blush, deep blue, beige,  ice blue, and black.

Bali womens One Smooth U Ultra Light Bra, Underwire T-shirt Bra (Retired Colors)

Solid cups topped with mesh add extra elegance and simplicity to this bra. The cups are molded (meaning they are shaped, but not contoured, so they will provide some headlight protection but aren't as stiff or padded as a contoured bra would be).

Inner side slings give you lift and a more rounded shape.  The center is arched; perfect for larger stomachs.  And, you can adjust the straps too.  Wear it the standard way, or criss-crossed. A leotard back means the straps are also less likely to slip off your shoulders.

It's got side slings for better support, and angled seams for shaping and rounder, more lifted appearance.

This is not a plunge, but it does dip low in front, so you can wear it under low-cut tops or button-down shirts.

Comes in black, mauve, pink, navy, ivory, beige, white, spearmint, purple, red, lavender, magenta, taupe, cerise, violet, caribbean blue and turquoise. US sizes 34, 36, 38, 40, and 42 B, C, D, and DD.

Full Figure Plus Size WonderWire Front-Closure Bra Underwire #1245

This bra gets an A in looks and another for comfort (a rare combination). There's lace along the top for glamour, and cushioning on the underwire and straps to minimize irritation. The bottom section of the cup is made of fabric that pulls moisture away from your skin, keeping you cooler and more comfortable.

The bra closes in front so you don't have to strain to reach around your back to hook it together.  Inset straps and a leotard back help keep the straps on your shoulders, rather than slipping off your back.

Comes in black, white, cafe, cappuccino, leopard, mocha, blue, and navy polka dot print.

It's a full figure style, but since it also comes in large band, small cup (34-48 B and C) sizes, I've included it here. The full size range is 34-48 B-H (UK sizes).

    1. What about women with large breasts and a large stomach? I haven't found an underwire bra that doesn't leave huge bruises on my stomach when I bend forward, but I need underwire to support without hurting my shoulders and back.

    2. Hi Valerie,

You have several options. The first one is to look for a bra with an arched center (meaning the middle goes up higher, see the Conturelle and the Bali One Smooth U bras on this post). This design is meant to accommodate larger stomachs. The second is to try a bandless bra (which has less material under the cups to dig into your stomach).

It’s hard to suggest something without knowing your size, but check out the Goddess Keira bra which also has an arched middle.

The Elomi Amelia is bandless, which will also work well if you’re short or short-waisted.

A third option is to try the Glamorise Elegance Wonderwire bra. The underwire is in its own separate channel, so it doesn't touch your skin. It also has the arched center section.

      I hope this helps!

      1. Hi, I'm not quite sure what you meant by not being able to wear a bra with cups. Did you want an open cup (nothing covering your breasts)? Or were you thinking of something that has one piece of fabric across the front (like a sports bra)?

Let me know which you had in mind and I will try to help you.

    5. A strapless bra won't lift quite as much (since it doesn't have straps). Look for more spandex and elastic for better support. Check out my strapless bra post: http://findabrathatfits.blogspot.com/2015/01/the-best-strapless-and-backless-bras.html for more details and options.

    6. I am a 44DD. I am full on the sides have a short torso. I have to sew most bras in the middle because the cups are too far apart. If I get a bra that supports more on the sides then it doesn't fit right in the middle. Any ideas?

    8. Hi Patty,

Being short can make it harder to find a bra because the cups are too far apart for a shorter body. It also sounds like you have close-set breasts, which will make the problem even worse.

Look for bras with side support, no band (better when you're short) and a narrow center panel.

Try the Elomi Amelia, the Elomi Morgan, or the Wacoal Basic Beauty Contour Spacer Bra. They have narrower centers, side support, and come in your size.

There are more options (and links) on this post http://findabrathatfits.blogspot.com/2015/02/bras-for-full-figured-petite-women.html .

      Hope this helps!

    9. I am a 50 B and cannot find a bra that has long enough straps for my shoulders. I don't like underwire and I want a bra that is not full coverage because it hurts my underarms.

    10. Hi Cherub,

I am a bit puzzled by your comment that you can't find straps that are long enough but underwires poke you. The first usually means you are tall and the second usually means you're short. It's also possible that you need a larger cup size and the wires are hitting you in the wrong place because the bra isn't large enough.

I was having the opposite problem; the straps on my bras were too long (which was weird since I have a long torso). When I realized I had been wearing the wrong size, and got a larger cup and smaller band, I had a lot less trouble. The straps get longer as the band size goes up!

You might try the Leading Lady model 5042. It doesn't have underwires and the neckline and sides are relatively low. It also comes in lots of colors. They specialize in large band/ small cup sizes.

      2. It may be that your height is in your torso, rather than your legs. Or, the band may be too small. It's also true that different brands and styles have different length straps. For example, a bra that can be worn criss-cross will have longer straps than a standard bra.

    11. Hi. I'm a 22 year old girl with big and saggy busts. I have a bra size of 36c. Although my whole body is quite perfectly shaped, my busts are extra ordinarily bigger. I also don't want pointed bras. Could you suggest any particular bra 4 me?

      ReplyDelete
    12. Hi Siddhi,

I would suggest the Bali Live it Up or the Olga Luxury Lift. They're both seamless, so they'll give you a rounder shape (seams tend to make bras pointier). Both come in your size and are designed to lift you up where you belong.

    13. I've tried underwires, which over time manage to either bruise my stomach or more often than that, dig into the area near my armpit. I've even managed to have skin breakdown from using them on occasion. I had a neighbor who used underwires for many years and when she developed breast cancer, her M.D. suggested it was from the use of wired bras. I'm not sure this underwire thing is great for those who have a few extra pounds on them, and possibly not for others, either.

      ReplyDelete
    14. Hi Unknown,

      Ouch, that sounds painful!

I can't say I ever heard of that doctor's theory before. As far as I know, breast cancer is caused largely by age, genetics, and diet.

However, if you are uncomfortable in underwires, you definitely shouldn't wear them!

You might try the soft cup version of the Chantelle Amazone bra, which has exceptional lift, without wires.

If you are plus size, check out the Goddess Keira Soft Cup, which has an arched center. That makes it more comfortable if you have a larger stomach. Or, try the Glamorise Complete Comfort, which has a front closure, no wires, and no band to dig into your stomach.

      1. Hi Blog10,

Here are some bras you might try. None of them have padding and all come in your size.

-Chantelle Revele Moi, which has pretty lace
        - Chantelle Merci, a spacer bra, so it's lightweight, and smooth for wearing under t-shirts
        - Freya Fearne half-cup, which comes in a pretty print.

These will all provide plenty of lift and support without making you look bigger or squashing you. Both brands specialize in "full bust" bras, meaning small band, large cup, which is what you are.

    18. Hi Unknown,

Since you're short, and busty, the bands on bras meant for taller women will dig into your stomach and cause discomfort. This is even worse if you have a larger stomach. The underwires on some bras may also be too long (which is why they dig into your armpits).

I would suggest looking for a bra that is bandless or has an arched center panel.

You might try the Elomi Amelia, which has no band and is a good choice for a short torso. The Elomi Nina is also bandless and has an arched center panel to relieve the pressure on your stomach. Glamorise's Elegance Wonderwire is cushioned so that the wire doesn't go near your skin.

If you absolutely don't want a wire, there's the Goddess Keira Soft Cup. That does have a band, but the center panel is arched.

    19. I am a 42DDD with heavy and saggy breasts, but I have been VERY unsuccessful over the past 6 months with finding a bra that fits in that size! I don't prefer underwire, but I don't have much of a choice, due to heaviness and level of the sagging of my breasts! I am BEYOND frustrasted, and annoyed by having to buy bras that are not only a waste of time, but money too!!! I recently purchased a 44DDD bra, but I thought it was going to bust after wearing it for only a couple hours!!! There was lift, but NO support! I need a FULL coverage bra, especially in the front, with lift AND support, as well as comfort!!! Although, at this point, I am convinced that NO such bra actually exists!!! Bra extenders are useless too, in my opinion!! Victoria Secret bras are supposed to be great, but they are a waste of my money too, because they do NOT fit, even WITH a bra extender!!! I want my breasts to fit into a bra where I am not constantly popping out of the front!!! I wish I could just go braless, but obviously, that is NOT ideal!!! I am about 5'3, 5'4 with a 42DDD bust size, but my breasts are also VERY heavy AND sag quite a bit more than most women of my age being that I am 33!!! Advice, or suggestions would be appreciated!! I am hoping that I don't have to spend an arm and a leg either just to have happier uplifted breasts!!! Thanks!

      1. Hi Unknown,

Wow, that does sound frustrating! I gave up on Victoria's Secret long ago!

I have a few suggestions for you.

The first is the Goddess Keira (style # GD6090). It has multi-part cups and side panels for extra support. It's full coverage, so it will hold everything in where it belongs. It comes in both 42 and 44 DDD. The center section is arched, which should be more comfortable for you. It also comes in fun colors. If you would rather have a print, try the Goddess Kalya (style #GD6162). Both have wide center panels, so they're better if you are wide-set.

Another option is the Wacoal Awareness full figure (style # 85567) which has an arched center and side slings in your size. This one has a narrow center, so it's better if you are close-set. It's seamless and the underwire is cushioned so it won't rub your stomach.

    20. Hello,

I'm a much larger lady who wears a 50C bra and I often use bra extenders. I find that my bra rolls up on me especially on the sides under my arms and this becomes uncomfortable or even painful during the day. Only underwires seem to give me the support I need because my breasts are large and saggy due to a connective tissue disorder. I've tried a 52C and 52D, but the cups are too large. Even with the 50C I have to use my hand to make my breasts fit into the cups without wrinkles. I'm 5'7" inches tall. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. It's hard to find bra's with my band size. Thank you!

    21. A few thoughts:

      Band size

Strange as it sounds, if your band is rolling up, it may be too big, rather than too small. If the back goes up and the front droops down, the band is too big.

Keep in mind that going up a band size also increases the cup volume of the bra. The cups on a 52C bra are bigger than the cups on a 50C; and the 52D is bigger still, which is why the cups on those styles are too big for you.

You might try sister sizing down a band size and up a cup size (to 48D) and see if that helps.

      Band strength and construction

Another solution is looking for bras with wider, stronger backs and sides. Heavier women often find that bras roll up under the sides, under their arms. A bra made with powernet fabric in the back and band or side boning will help keep the band from rolling and shifting.

      Swoop and scoop

The wrinkling without moving your breast tissue isn't a bug; it's perfectly normal at your size. You need to "swoop and scoop" your breast tissue out from under your arm and forward into the cups of the bra. Otherwise, everything won't be in the right place. If you then pop out, you need a larger cup size.

A bra with support panels along the outside of the cup will help naturally move your tissue out from under your arms and forward into the bra.

Now, on to the actual bras. All of these come in both 48D and 50C.

You might try the Glamorise 1000. It has high, powernet sides and no wires. The band is designed for more lift and support, and the straps are cushioned to to be more comfortable. It comes in six colors too.

The Elila Embroidered Soft-cup Bra 1301 also has side boning and inner slings. The band and back are wide and tall to provide support and keep the bra in place. The band also has extra support for stability. It has no wires, and is available in five different colors.

Finally, there's the Leading Lady 5028, which does have underwire (which will give you better support). There's boning in the sides, and the back is firmly stretchy with elastic on the edges (for support and a better fit). It has some padding, but that's for headlight control more than anything else. It comes in nine colors and prints.

    22. Hi Jodi,
I measured around my rib cage and I'm 57 inches, yet the 50 inch bandwidth is rolling up on me. I'm very confused about what bandwidth to purchase in the bras you suggested. Thank you so much.

      1. Hi Michele,

Hmmmm. Did you measure alone or have help? It's important to make sure the tape is straight and to exhale. It can be hard to do all of that by yourself!

For larger sizes, the band should be the closest even number to your actual measurement (so if you're 51 inches on the tape, the band size is 52).

Did you measure your bust in a bra? What was the difference? Three inches would be a C and four is a D.

The important thing is to get the band size right first. Going up and down a band size is two inches, while increasing or decreasing a cup size is only one inch. It may also be (and I am not a doctor!) that the connective tissue disorder is making you more pendulous, and making measuring correctly more difficult.

You may have to order several sizes and see what works or see if there's a reputable bra boutique in your town where you can go for a fitting in person.

        I hope this helps!

    24. I would appreciate some advice. I am 28 years old and have had large breasts since I could remember. I am trying to figure out the best kind of bra I should purchase. LB measured me about 9 months ago as a 42 H. My breasts are very saggy and heavy. It's important for my girls to be where the should be. When they sag I look way heavier than I am. I want a supportive bra and I also like a bra that covers them all. What would you suggest?

      1. Hi Mel G,

You might try the Elila Full Coverage Lace Bra (style 2311). It has multipart cups (more lift and better shaping), and there's a sling inside the entire cup that will help give more lift. The center is high, which will help keep everything inside the bra!. It comes in five colors.

Or, if you are short, you might try the Elomi Nina (4100), which is bandless, so it's better for petites. It's called a plunge for some reason, but it has lots of coverage and really doesn't dip low on your body. It also has multi-part cups and side support panels to push you forward.

Wires will give you better support, but if you hate them you might try the Glamorise 1000 I suggested for Michelle (above). It's full coverage, and has multi-part cups. There's power netting to help hold everything in all the way around the bra.

      1. Hi Andrea,

First of all Happy Birthday! And congratulations on becoming a mom.

If you measure 50 inches, than you’ll need a 50 inch band (after a certain point, the plus four method no longer works).

I am assuming that by not covering your chest and heart you mean you want something with a lower cut front.

The new Glamorise model 9845 might do the trick. It comes in your size, is available in lilac, beige, and white (with pink ribbon) and is bandless so it’s lighter. There are slings on the sides and along the bottoms of the cups, for better support and lift. This will push you up and forward (rather than hanging down). It’s even pretty!

Goddess GD6131 has an even lower neck, and will minimize a bit. There are also panels on the sides to push you forward. The center is arched, so that will be more comfortable if you have a larger stomach. This style is seamless, so it won’t show under clothes. Amazon currently has it in beige, black, bright pink, bright blue, and red. There is some indication that it runs a bit smaller than other Goddess bras, but it goes up to 52DDD, so you can go up a size if you have to.

The front closure is a bit of a problem. Glamorise 1200 and 1205 close in front, but they are full coverage, which means they will be high up on your chest. The trouble is that in that size range, they need to add lots of hooks (six in your size), in order to provide enough support, which means the bra can’t plunge much. These are also both wire-free, which may not be enough support for you.

There’s also a Just My Size wire-free bra model 1107 that closes in front, but that has eight hooks!

    28. Hi Simple Kaur

Sagging is usually a result of age, gravity, and pregnancy. Since you're young and small-busted, and didn't mention kids, I wonder if the problem is sagging or being shallow (meaning shaped sort of like a ski slope, with most of your tissue towards the bottom of your breast).

In that case, a balcony or demi bra with underwire should help. The Chantelle Merci 1745 is a demi bra style with no padding. It's lacy and quite pretty.

If you would rather have something smooth, and padded, try the Maidenform One Fabulous Fit Demi Bra 7959. The padding is light, so you won't feel weighed down by it. Note that Maidenform tends to run a bit small.

Another option is the Wacoal Embrace Lace Contour Bra 853191, which has some padding, smooth cups, and a low cut neckline.

I do have a large stomach and I'm short 5'1.please please do help me out.I need to lift them and not have them pointed.Thanx in advance.

    30. Hi Sunny D

Where is the bra gapping? If it’s at the top of the cups, a bra with elastic at the top will help.

If it’s in the middle, you may need a bigger cup size.

Or, it could be that your stomach is pushing up the bra from the bottom. In that case, you might try a bra with an arched center and/or no band. This will help keep everything away from your stomach. Most of the Triumph bras have bands and are straight across, which leads me to believe that is the likely culprit.

Here are some options, that provide lift, are bandless, have back/side support and are smooth. They are all available in both 36C and D.

You might try the Olga No Side Effects GB0561A. The cups are contoured (so no show through), and stretchy for a better fit. It’s also bandless and has an arched center. The straps are wide set though, so if you have sloping shoulders you may have issues with them slipping. It will also help with the side and back bulges.

Wacoal 853205 is bandless, and has side and back smoothing. It’s spacer material, so it’s a bit lighter than a usual contour bra. This one has deeply inset straps, so they won’t fall off your shoulders.

You might also try the Vanity Fair Beauty Back Smoother 76380. It’s bandless and has a high back and sides to keep everything smooth. The cups are contoured and it has a leotard back (so the straps won’t slide).

Or, there’s the Bali Double Support Spa Closure Bra 3P66 which has elastic along the tops of the cups (for a better fit and no gapping). It’s contoured and the back and sides are high, which should help contain the bulges. The bra closes in front and has a pronounced arched center (which will help with the tummy issues).

    31. Hi ...thanx for the reply ...I would say the gapping is mainly at the top.Though I'm not sure if I've got my cup size correct.I measure 38 inches (98cm)band width and 33 inches (84cm) cup wise.
My present cup puckers at the top and mostly on the right breast.I still feel they are pointing to two directions rather than being centrally placed...I think the bali you mentioned would be best but do suggest what you think is the best size for me,where am I going wrong.
I do have constant backaches...May be my posture is the problem?

    32. Hi Sunny D,

Are you sure you measured correctly? Or maybe there’s a typo in your comment? The bust size (the measurement around your breasts, in a bra) should be larger than the band size (the measurement around your torso, under your breasts).

If you have puckering, the cup size may be too big. Or, it could be the shallowness of your breasts.

If the cup is gapping on one side more than the other, you may be uneven. This is a common problem. You can fix it by buying one of the bras with an elastic cup or a contour (molded) bra. Both will help hide the problem.

If you are really a 38 band and you’ve been wearing a 36, you may be in pain because the band is too tight.

The key thing is to get the band size right first. Then you can work on the cup size.

    33. Hi Jodi! You are SO helpful, its incredible! Thank you from me and all the women who have found your website! There are a couple that I may try but wanted to ask you in case you have any tips in mind.
I am a 32H. I had lost a lot of weight and didn't seem to lose the weight up top unfortunately. I have so much trouble finding bras that don't hurt me or that I pop out the top or that ride up my back. There is always one annoying issue with them. I occasionally can find a somewhat decent bra in this size. Since I've continued to lose weight, they have started to sag so quickly as of late. Do you have any tips or bras in mind that may help a short stature (I am 5 feet tall) large chest small waist? Thanks again for all of your help, Jodi!

    34. Hi Whe rl

      Thanks for the compliments!

If you are popping out the top and the band is riding up you may need a larger cup and/or a smaller band. Since you are petite, you’ll also need something with shorter underwires and lower sides.

You might try the Panache Envy Balconnet 7285. It comes in 32H, as well as 30HH and 32HH so you can try different combinations. If you need a bigger cup, it goes up to cup size K. The wires are shorter so it’s better for petites. There are panels on the side for support and to help push you forward. It’s also really pretty with a houndstooth pattern and lots of lace.

If you’d rather have something smooth, there’s the Panache Elan t-shirt bra 7321. This is also convertible to racerback. It’s bandless, so it won’t dig into your stomach. This only goes up to an H cup, but has band sizes as small as 28.

The Chantelle C Ideal Plunge T-Shirt Bra 1951 is also bandless, smooth, and goes up to an H cup, with band sizes down to 30. This is more of a full coverage style. The straps are inset, so they shouldn’t slide off. The center of this is wider than the Panache bras so it’s better if you are wide-set.

      1. Hi Jodi! I followed your advice and HOLY COW!!!! My boobs have never felt so weightless and bumped up right where they need to be! Thank you thank you thank you!!!

I was wondering if you could help me with one more tata problem! I am in my friends wedding and she decided to choose a strapless dress *gasp!* I am a 32 H and very short, what do you think would be the best strapless? Or should I go full on strapless corset? Thank you, you are wonderful!

        Delete
      2. Hi Whe rl,

        You're welcome!!

It's kind of funny that you're asking for help with a strapless bra for a wedding, because that's how this whole blog got started. I needed one for the strapless dress I got for a wedding and couldn't find anything anywhere! It kind of snowballed from there.

If you're short, I don't think a corset would be a good idea, since it's likely to be too long for you.

You might try the Wacoal Red Carpet Strapless Bra 854119. The center of the bra has an arch, so it should be more comfortable for a short person. There are little grippers inside to help it stay up. Plus, after the wedding, you can wear it four different ways: strapless, the usual way, cross-cross, or one-shoulder. There is a bit of padding, mostly to prevent show-through. The center panel is wide, so it's best if you are wide-set.

Another option is the Le Mystere 9756. This also can be worn four different ways. The band is small (and Le Mystere tends to run a bit small), so you may have to adjust the sizing (try a 34G or a 34H) to get the right fit. The center panel is taller and narrower than the Wacoal, so it is better if you are close-set.

Or, there's the Curvy Kate CK2601. This has vertical seams and side panels. The design will give you better support, but the seams may show depending on the dress you are wearing. The center panel is narrow and arched, so this is also best for close-set breasts and less likely to dig into your stomach. Curvy Kate has UK sizing, so if you are a US 32H, you will need an FF in this (it goes up to a J, or a US M cup).

    35. Hi Jodi, I'm 5/4, 200 pounds and wear a 40/42 D and I'm always getting rashes where my under boob meets my upper stomach. This is what I imagine my perfect bra would be:

      - Padded (my nips are always hard)
      - Tight enough and enough lift so skin doesn't meet skin (but not too tight so that I have awful back fat rolls)
      - Really good side support
      - Minimized and not pointy
      - No underwire (underwire bras push into my stomach under the cups when I'm sitting and over time the wire breaks through the material and starts coming out the side)
      - Won't ride up in the back
      - Straps stay on my shoulders (I hate using the bra converters, they always break)

      Help me!

      1. Hi Holly,

Sounds like you’ve got a long list of bra issues. Let’s see what we can do to fix that.

The rashes may be the material in the bra, or it could be that the band is too tight and irritating your skin. It should be loose enough to slide a finger under the band in the back, but not so loose that it rides up.

If the band is riding up, it’s too big.

The underwire pushing into your stomach might be helped with a bra that’s bandless, particularly since you are on the short side.

Breaking underwires can be caused by several things. The wire is more likely to break if you put the bra in the washing machine, and especially the dryer. They can also break if the band is too tight or the cup size is too small. Usually it’s too small a cup size because there’s too much pressure on the wire and it snaps.

Trying a larger cup size might fix this.

The Vanity Fair Back Smoother 76380 is bandless, contoured, and has an arched center (which will also help with the tummy trouble).

It has a leotard back, so that will help keep the straps from slipping. It comes in 40 and 42 D, DD, and DDD, and both 44 D and DD so you can try both larger cups and band sizes to get the right fit (remember that the cup volume gets larger as the band size increases, even if it’s the same letter name). And you can get it in twelve colors.

It is underwire, but I think the lack of a band and the larger cup size can help.

Another underwire option might be the Bali One Smooth U Bra 3470N t’s also contoured and bandless. The center is arched to keep it away from your stomach. The back and straps are specifically designed to cut down on slipping straps. There’s also extra power mesh in the back and sides to keep everything smooth. You can also wear it criss-cross if you want. Goes up to 42DD.

The Curvy Couture 1102 is bandless, has smooth, lightly padded cups, and an extra soft lining. There’s no band to dig into your skin. The sides have a mesh lining, and elastic on the edges, which will help smooth your sides and reduce bulges. The straps are inset in back to keep them from falling down. The cups run a bit small, but they go up to H (!) so there’s plenty of room to go up if you need to.

If you absolutely must have wirefree, you mighty try the Playtex Wirefree 5452. It’s padded to stop show through. It also has high sides and back to keep the bulges under control. The sides are also reinforced (even more support and control). A leotard back stops slipping (or, you can wear it criss-cross). This goes up to 44DD.

The Bali One Smooth U also comes in a wirefree version (6546). The straps are leotard back and can be worn criss-cross. It also goes up to 42DD.

    36. Hello im am size around 36FF i have a bit of extra fat on the side of my breasts.Currently i wear wacol underwire sports bra. It looks all right kinda covers my extra fat under arms gives me a litte lift withlots of support but my chest looks saggy im not getting the lift. What can i wear underneath my sports bra or is there a bra that would meet these same criteria.

      ReplyDelete
    37. Hi ComputerHelp,

A sports bra is primarily designed for containment and bounce control. It's not necessarily the best choice for lift.

Since I'm not sure if you chose a sports bra because it's plainer, or because that's what fit, I have included both smooth and lacy styles, with both basic colors and prints.

You might try the Fantasie Lois FL2972. It has lift, a cut and sewn construction for better support, and side panels to keep the bulges under control. It's rather pretty too, with contrasting stripes and a jaunty bow in the center. It comes in white, beige, pink, and black.

If you prefer a smoother style, try the Elomi EL8740. It's made of spacer fabric, which means it will be lightweight and cooler in the summer. There are support panels in the cups and power mesh in the sides. Both of those things will help center and support your bust and keep it from going side to side instead of straight out front. This comes in black, beige, and eggplant. Elomi tends to be cut generously, so you may need to adjust your size.

Or, there's the Sculptress by Panache 7695. This bra has a four-part cup for better support and lift. The sides are designed with extra support panels. Both sides and back are tall, which will help ban any bulges. It comes in either solid beige, solid black, or floral prints, topped with a bit of lace.

If you want something that has no decoration at all, there's the Panache 7321. It's completely smooth and the straps are convertible. It also has power mesh sides. The center is narrow, so it's best if you are close-set. Comes in beige and black.

Another option is the Fantasie FL4510. No seams, no lace, and it's lined with extra-soft fabric for more comfort. It does have a bit of padding (for modesty). This style seems to be running a bit big in the cups, so you may have to downsize. If you'd rather skip the foam, there's a sister style (4520) without it. This comes in beige and black.

    38. Hi Jodi,

Iv had 2 babies and recently weaned from nursing my second. My boobs look like deflated water balloons sagging off my chest. I'm struggling to find a bra because the full coverage bras always seem to end up with gapping at the top of the cups because my breasts can't fill them out anymore, but if there's not full coverage my boobs fall out of my bra when I bend over. (Which I do a lot of with 2 babies). Band wise I'm at 34/36 and cup size Iv always been a B but now they sag so much I'm not sure. A's feel too tight but I can't fill out a C cup. Any thoughts for me?

      1. Hi Jenna, I realize this is a bit belated, but I just realized I typed out a long reply to your question and didn't post it. Sorry about that!

There are several things you could try. First, make sure you are putting your bra on correctly. I know this sounds a bit silly, but scooping and swooping (meaning scooping up the bottom of your breast tissue with your hand and moving it up into the cup), can make a big difference in how your bras fit. Lean forward a little, put your breasts in the cups, and then close the hooks.

Second, a cut-and-sewn bra (meaning the cups have several pieces sewn together with seams) can also provide better shaping and support. Look for something with elastic along the top so it will better adjust to your shape.

Or, you could try a contour cup (which means the bra will hold its shape even if you aren’t wearing it). Since the cup is pre-formed, and a bit thicker than an unlined bra, the shallowness won’t matter so much, and the upper part of the cup won’t wrinkle.

        Some options:

Wacoal Embrace Lace 55191. This is fuller-coverage, but it’s friendly to shallower breast shapes. There are slings in the bra which will help lift and support you. It’s fairly invisible under clothing (for a lace bra), but it’s not ideal for t-shirts.

If you want something smooth, it also comes in a contour version (model 853191). This has slightly stretchy cups, which will also help camouflage sagging, and give you a better fit. It’s really pretty too (with lace under the cups and around the back of the band).

Simone Perele Andora 3D Bra 131343. This is shaped, and smooth, but feels like wearing an unlined bra. The fabric is lightweight and breathes, so it’s great for the summer. It also creates great cleavage (without thick padding).

The Chantelle Rive Gauche T-shirt Bra 3086 is completely smooth with scalloped lace along the top and bottom of the cups. It’s a t-shirt bra, so the cups are pre-shaped (which will help with gapping). The design will also help lift your bust.

    39. Hi Jodi,

My name is Brandy. Last time I was measured, I was a 36 C or a 34 D. My problem is that age and weight loss (I've lost 80 pounds) has left me with major sag and loose skin. I can't stand having pointy boobs, and I would like to get a little lift back if possible. Is there a push-up that I wouldn't fall out of?

      ReplyDelete
    40. Hi Brandy,

Congratulations on the weight loss! You don’t necessarily need a “push up” bra (unless you want extra cleavage). You do need something that will support you and push everything forward.

You didn’t say where the loose skin was. If it’s mostly at your sides (under your arms) you’ll need side support to push you forward and cover the bulges. If it’s in front, you need more lift.

It will also help if you ‘scoop and swoop’ when you put your bra on.

      Here are some options.

As a general rule, a t-shirt bra will be a rounder shape than a seamed one, but the bras with seams give you better support.

      ***Non-push up options***

      Chantelle Revele Moi 1571

This will give you lift without being pointy. The tops of the cups are sheer, and the bottoms have a geometric pattern. There are seams for support and side panels to push you to the front (instead of hanging loose at your sides). Since it’s not lined, and there are seams, you might have some show through.

      Bali Live it Up 3353

If you would rather have a t-shirt bra (completely smooth with a heavier lining), this one has an extra support panel (cleverly disguised as a floral design) which will give you more lift under your bust. There are also support slings on the sides and the bottom of the cups. All of that will push everything up. The cups are stretchy so they will adjust to your shape.

Chantelle Rive Gauche T-Shirt Bra 3286

This style is pre-shaped (so that it won’t matter so much if you’re saggy). The cups are completely smooth, and the fabric is extra-soft. It’s thick enough that there’s no show-through, but it’s not a big, heavy bra. The back is made of “shaper” material so it will also help with bulges.

      ***Push up options***

      Affinitas Intimates Nicole 131

This has extra padding along the bottom for a bigger boost, and a pretty neckline to show it off. There’s no extra side support though.
It’s elasticated along the back and sides so it will stretch (or not) to better fit your shape.

The band is a bit small so you might want to sister size up a band size and down a cup size.

      Le Mystere Gigi 2215

The Gigi bra has padding both under the cups and along the sides. You’ll get lots and lots of cleavage! There’s also boning along the sides for better support.

Le Mystere tends to run a little small in the cups, so you may want to go up a size. This is a t-shirt bra so it’s a rounder shape and there’s no lace or decoration to show through under your clothes.

    41. Hi Jodi,
I'm a 42 year old, 5'4" and 150lbs. I've been wearing a VS Body By Victoria Demi and Full Coverage in 34DD for a while now. The problem is that I'm starting to get side bulge and it always feels like my girls should be more perked up. I know the 34 is correct as it's not too tight and I can put it on the last and second to last hook comfortably. I've liked the VS because they seem to be soft and not itchy, but of course they keep changing their bras and now I just feel like they're hanging down too far, the straps are starting to dig and I suddenly jave side bulge. Can you recommend any bras That are soft enough, would pull them up to were they need to be and lessen the digging and side bulge?

      ReplyDelete
    42. Hi Anne,

Are the bras new? Or have they stretched? A new bra should fit on the outermost hook and should be straight across your back without riding up.

Straps digging in to your shoulders is a sign that they are doing too much of the work and that your band size may be too big.

Does the bra stay up if you slide the straps off? If not, you need a smaller band. Try sister sizing down a band size and up a cup size.

If you're poking out of the sides and the front, you may also be in a cup size that's too small.

Also, make sure that you're swooping and scooping and pulling the breast tissue forward into the cups when you put your bra on. This will help get everything out front instead of hanging out on your side.

The Fantasie Smoothing Balcony bra (above) will give you the support you need and has no itchy lace. It's in UK sizes, so DD is the same as the US, but DDD would be an E cup. It has shorter wires, so it's good for shorter women.

Fayreform Contour Spacer Bra F72-9098 is also a t-shirt bra. It's completely smooth and will give you lift and shaping. The spacer fabric means it's lighter weight and cooler in the summer than a regular bra. It will give you a rounded shape and push everything forward. This is UK sizes so DD is the same and DDD is an E (like the Fantasie).

You might also try the Wacoal Side Smoother Contour 853281, which is especially designed to stop side bulges. It has no lace or decoration and it's completely smooth. The sides are high (to stop the bulging), so keep that in mind if you have a short torso.

    43. Jodi, thank you for your generous and thorough information. I am a 61-year-old and have always had sagging breasts. I am probably 5'2"-3"now (was 5'4")and weigh 135 lbs. My band measurement is 35" and bust 41". I find that I need more support but don't like the huge padded bras I usually see. I also find that I look like a have a uniboob (one big mountainous boob) and would like more separation with lift. Although I am on a limited budget, comfort and good quality are important. Any suggestions? Thank you again. Dina

    44. Hi Dina,

Based on the numbers you gave me, it sounds like you are a 38C. If you're not sure, focus on getting the band right first, and then adjust up or down for the cup size.

You want to look for bras with inner support panels and slings. That will give you better lift and separation and stop the uniboob look. Molded is OK (that’s generally just shaped), but avoid “contour."

Cut and sewn bras will give more support and separation than seamless bras, but might have some show-through and a slightly pointier look.

I have several options for you (both seamless and cut and sewn. All are budget-friendly choices.

The Bali Passion for Comfort 3383 has side slings which will give you more lift and better support. The underwires are in their own channel so they won't dig in and the straps are padded (not the bra!) to be more comfortable. This is seamless.

The Bali Live it Up 3353 (on this post) has two sets of slings: one in the bottom of the cups and another on the sides. This will give you more lift and separation and help push everything forward. It's seamless and the straps are cushioned.

If you would rather have a cut-and-sewn bra, try the Flower Bali 180. The seams help give you more shaping and the sides have boning (that bends) to give you better support and projection. This one is a pointier shape than the others.

      Olga Signature Support Bra 35002

This is seamless and has inner slings on the bottom and sides to give you better lift and separation. The seams are slightly padded to be more comfortable, but the cups are not, so it won’t make you look bigger. The cups will also stretch a bit so that they fit your body better.

Playtex Secrets Full Figure Bra 4422

A seamed bra will generally give more support than a seamless bra. This one has angled seams which also help keep everything centered and lifted. It will also give you more separation. It’s got a floral pattern and it’s trimmed with lace. The center panel is wide (which will also help with separation), but could be an issue if you are close-set. This is a more retro style.

    45. Thank you so much Jodi. I recently bought an Olga Luxury Lift in a 38D and the cup was too small. I just now remeasured myself and think my bust might be closer to 42". Do you think I might need a 38DD or 36DD?

      ReplyDelete
    46. Hi Dina,

You need to measure under your bust for the band size, and then over your bust (wearing an unpadded bra) for the cup size.

If the 38D is too small in the cup, but the band is comfortable, then try a 38DD. The 36DD wouldn't work because the cup volume would be the same as the 38D. The bras I originally mentioned should all come in 38DD as well.

    47. Hi.. I'm an older woman with large breasts that suffer from upper volume loss. I had been wearing a 34 DDD Soma bra with a triagular shaped pad in the upper area of the bra, but I'm still experiencing gapping at the top of the cup. Recently I tried a 34 G Le Mystete Inifinte Possibilities plunge bra. While the style solved the gapping at the top of the bra, it caused the underarm area to spill over the band creating a huge bulge. Would going up a band size solve the underarm bulging? I've lost a lot of weight which caused loss of firmness everywhere, especially in my underarm area. Is there a style of bra that address both problems? I've found that foam cup bras work best for me. Thanks!!

      1. Hi Susanne,

If you go up a band size in the Le Mystere you would also be getting larger cup volume (even though it’s marked with the same letter). The cup on a 36G is larger than the cup on a 34G.

A band that’s too big will slide around, won’t fit correctly, and will put more pressure on the straps. That will cause the straps to dig into your shoulders.

Get the band right first, then worry about the cup size.

Also, do the swoop and scoop to make sure you are pulling everything forward and into the cups of your bra. I know it sounds funny, but it does make a difference!

A foam cup works better for saggy or shallow breasts because the bra is pre-shaped and hides the lack of fullness at the top. A demi bra can work too (since there’s less material on top to start with).

And yes, there are bras that will give you both lift and smoothing/shaping on the sides.

You might try the Wacoal Side Smoother Contour Bra B53281. This will provide shaping and lift as well as help to hide the lack of fullness on top. It has high sides and back and special criss-cross bands on the side to help smooth you out.

Le Mystere runs small, so if the G cup in that fits you, I would try the 34DDD in this bra first, rather than the G cup.

The Fayreform Profile Perfect Contour Bra F72-9098 will also give you a smooth shape and good lift. It’s made of spacer fabric, which is much lighter than standard bras (cooler in hot weather too). It has high. boned sides and inner slings in the cups which will keep everything lifted and smooth. It’s shaped, but not bulky (so you won’t look bigger). You’d want a 34E in this one.

Or, there’s the Wacoal Basic Beauty Contour 853192, which has high sides and back and comes in a few more colors than the Side Smoother does. It has slings in the sides of the cups which will help give you support and lift.

You can see them on this post (scroll down for the fuller bust options):

      1. Hi Unknown,

Are you having shoulder pain because of a medical problem? Or are the straps digging into your shoulders? If it's the latter, you may need a smaller band size. If the band is too big, it slides around your body, and can't give you the support it should. That means the straps have to do too much work, causing pain.

        What size are you wearing?

    49. I'm 21 years old, 5'4" and I'm currently on a weight loss journey. I'm trying to find a bra with as much lift and support as possible to keep my breasts from sagging as I lose more weight. My right breast is slightly smaller than my left, so it makes it hard for me to find cups that fit right and lift as much as necessary. My measurements are 38" under the bust, and 42 inches around the fullest part. Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

      1. Hi LilahRose,

It's not unusual to have breasts that aren't quite the same size. You can fix this by either getting a molded or contour bra (which will help hide the size difference), or a bra with stretchy cups.

From the measurements you gave me, you're a 38D. Since you’re not quite petite, but on the shorter side, I’ve noted whether the bra has petite-friendly features.

        Here are some options.

        Wacoal Basic Beauty 855192

The cups are molded and stretchy, so it will adjust to fit your shape. There’s a sling inside that will give you more support and lift. The wide center panel is best if you are wide-set. This also has inset straps, which will help support you and stop slipping. It’s a full coverage style, with no seams, so it won’t show under t-shirts.

Bali Live It Up Underwire Bra 3353

Stretchy cups to hide the size disparity, and no seams to show through clothing. There’s a pretty petal design on the cups, which hides slings at the bottom and sides. Those slings give you more lift and a rounded shape. The underwires are wrapped to keep them away from your skin and from poking you under the arms. You can see this bra higher up on this post.

Wacoal Bodysuede Ultra Full Figure Bra 85814

This has inner side slings for lift and support and to help push you to the center (rather than the sides). The stretchy molded cups will hide unevenness. It's also bandless and arched in the center, so it will keep the bottom of the bra away from your stomach. This is also good if you have a short torso. It’s completely smooth except for a bit of lace between the cups and along the straps. The center is narrow, so it’s best if you are close-set.

        Wacoal Halo Lace 851205

Stretchy lace cups, with elasticated edges, will give you a better fit. It also has a J-hook in the back so you can wear it under tank tops (using the hook will also give you a bit of extra lift). It’s bandless and arched in the center (good for shorter women or if you have a large stomach).

        Olga Signature Support 35002

A completely smooth bra, with a bit of satin trim on the cups. The cups stretch to fit and there are slings along the bottom and sides for more support. The slings are padded to be more comfortable. The sides are tall (for smoothing), so keep that in mind if you are short between your shoulders and the bottom of your bust.

        The Panache Envy 7285

This is the prettiest bra of the bunch (in my opinion)

It is decorated with a mixture of houndstooth and lace. It’s balconnet style (a bit less coverage than the others). The upper part of the cups (the lace) is stretchy so it will give you a more custom fit. There are side panels for more lift and support (this will also push you forward). The arched and vertical seams give you a more rounded, natural looking shape as well as lift and support.

Good luck with your weight loss!

      1. The Panache Envy. A bra with seams will give better shaping and support than a seamless bra. The next best would be the Wacoal Bodysuede if you'd rather have a smooth bra.

I forgot to mention before, but the Chantelle Rive Gauche 3281 would also work. It's a seamed bra, for better support, and there are side panels which push you forward and make you look thinner. The top of the cup will stretch to fit your shape. The underwires are shorter, so it may be more comfortable. It is pricey, but it is worth the money.

      1. If you want more cleavage, you could try the Freya Deco Vibe Convertible Underwire T-shirt bra (AA1704). That will give you great lift and fullness. However, the cups aren't stretchy.

You may have to balance your different needs, or try several different styles to see what works best for you.

      1. Hi PB,

Sounds like you are having trouble because you are short, or have a short torso. You need to look for bras with shorter wires. Bandless styles, without any extra material under the cups, will be more comfortable and less likely to dig into your ribs and stomach. A bra with an arched center panel will also be less bulky and reduce discomfort.

Here are some options.  The first three are on the top of this post already (so you can see what they look like).

The Fantasie Seamless Balcony bra (FL4520) gives great lift and shaping and has shorter wires that are less likely to dig in under your armpits. It will pull you up and push you together, which will also make you look thinner. Since it's completely smooth, it won't show under your clothes.

The Chantelle Amazone (2101) is also exceptionally supportive and has shorter wires, which are more comfortable for petite women or women with short torsos. There are side panels (which aren't too high), and horizontal seams which will give you better projection. That will give you more lift and keep your breasts away from your stomach.

If you’d rather combine the upllift and support of a cut-and-sewn bra, with a more rounded shape, try the Chantelle Rive Gauche Three Part Cup (3281).  The angled seams will make you look fuller (rather than conical).  It’s got side panels that will push your tissue forward (and keep it out from under your arms).  The cups are stretchy and have a little elastic on the edges, which will give you a more custom fit. The arched center is also more comfortable if your stomach goes up into your bust.

Natori’s Pure Luxe Contour Bra (732080) has excellent support. The front is bandless and the center is arched, so it will be more comfortable. The cups are a bit stretchy, so they will adjust for a more personalized fit. And, it comes in fun colors like lollipop red, raspberry, and gray with contrasting pink straps.

If you want to stick with Playtex, the Playtex Secrets Natural Lift Bra 4415 has slings hidden in the cups.  That will get you more lift and a rounder shape.  It also has a cotton lining inside the cups and the straps, which will be cooler in the summer. And, the arched center panel and bandless design will be more comfortable, especially when you sit down.

You may be wearing the wrong style or the wrong cup size. If you have been buying balcony bras, or demi-cups, try a more full coverage style that encloses more of your breast tissue. The other possibility is that you need to go up a cup size to a C instead of a B.

      1. Hi Mishika,

Breasts tend to start to sag because of age (not your problem!), or weight gain, so that could be the issue. Since you’re not busty, you don’t need support so much as lift.

Luckily, there are solutions to this. If you’re OK with seamed bras, look for styles with vertical and/or angled seams. The vertical seams give more lift and the angled seams provide centering, support, and lift.

Since you’re short, you’ll also need to look for bras that have arched center panels and no band under the cups in front. An arched panel, bandless bra is better for your shorter body and less likely to dig into your stomach.

I don’t know what your taste is, so I’ve listed both seamed and seamless bras.

You might try the b. tempt’d Ciao Bella Balconette 953144. It has vertical seams (for lift) and a beautiful lace overlay on the cups. The center is arched, which is more comfortable for shorter women, or women with larger stomachs. It comes in tons of colors too. Since it’s a lace overlay, it will show less under t-shirts than an unlined lace bra would.

Bali Lace Desire Bra DF1002 is constructed with angled seams for lift and support. The lower section of the cups is lined, while the top is stretchier lace material (so it will adjust to your shape). It has no band to dig in your stomach and the center section is arched. The back of the straps (where it attaches to the band) is built up so it will also help smooth out back bulges.

Since you’re relatively small busted, a supportive seamless underwire bra should do the trick too.

Warner's Cloud 9 Bra RB1691A is seamless and smooth, with a pretty keyhole center. There’s no band, and the center is arched, so it will stay up and away from your stomach. The underwires will give you the lift you need. The cup is slightly padded to stop nipple show through.

The DKNY Cotton Lift Bra DK4013. This style is more sporty than the others. No lace, no frills. It’s smooth and seamless, but it has padding, which will give you more lift and push up. There’s no band, which will be easier on your stomach. Since it’s cotton, it’s also cooler in hot weather.

The Hanes T-Shirt Front Closure HU01 will be great under t-shirts since the only decoration is a fine lace trim along the edge of the cups. There’s nothing to show through your clothing. It’s slightly padded (mostly for modesty, rather than to add size). It’s also bandless and has an arched center, which is a good design for your body type.

Maidenform One Fab Fit Spacer Foam Bra DM7986 is made of spacer material (which is lighter and cooler than standard bra fabric). If you have trouble with side and back spillage, this bra will help fix that. It’s also got the bandless, arched front (for better comfort against your stomach). Maidenform tends to run small, so you may have to adjust your sizing.

      1. Hi Puneet,

In the US at least, 32 is not fuller figure; it’s a small band. Full figure is roughly 38 and higher.

If you want side support to push you forward, you can look for a bra with side boning or slings. Bras with vertical seams in the center of the cups or diagonal seams that meet the straps will also give you more support and lift than a seamless bra would. Those are usually underwire though.

If the problem is the underwire poking you under your arms, a demi cup bra might work better (the cup is smaller so the underwires are shorter).

The b. tempt’d Ciao Bella Balconnette 953144 does have an underwire, but it’s a smaller cup style, which is less likely to dig in. It also has side boning and a vertical seam which will push you forward.

If you absolutely hate underwires, you might try the Wacoal How Perfect Soft Cup Bra 852189. It has side boning for support, and it doesn’t have underwires. There is a bit of padding, but just enough to stop anything showing through, rather than to make you look bigger.

Similarly, the Simone Perele Caresse 3D Soft Cup 12A215 has boning on the sides but no wires. The sides are shorter, so the bra is less likely to dig in under your arms. The 3D fabric is lighter and cooler than the usual kind so you’ll be more comfortable if the weather is warm.

It’s also possible that you are having problems with wires because the bras you try on are designed for taller people. Wacoal has a Petite Embrace Lace Bra (it’s push up and padded, but some of that is removable) designed for shorter bodies. The cups are angled differently and there’s no band to dig into your stomach. It does have a wire.

There are also bras from The Little Bra Company, which are designed entirely for shorter bodies and smaller frames. They are mostly padded, but to various degrees. Look for Yvonne or Mercedes (which are better for wider set breasts, which it sounds like you have).

    56. Hi Jodi! So glad to have stumbled upon your site! My question is for my mother, who is 76 and in GREAT health (thankful :) ). She is 5'4", roughly 160lb, and currently wears a 42D. She has been working out with a personal trainer, and I just measured her at 44.5 inches at her widest part. So, that is why her bras seem to be busting at the seams. ;) Also, the straps cut into her shoulders from the weight of her chest. I am hoping you could suggest a bra or 2 that she could order. Thank you! Sonja

      1. Hi Sonja,

By widest part, do you mean around her rib cage, or over her breasts? The straps cutting into her shoulders are a sign that her band is too big and the straps are working too hard to support her bust. The band should be doing most of the work.

Get the band right first, and then adjust up or down to get the cup size right. The band should lay flat, without riding up (too big) or squeezing her (too small).

The exercising may have also strengthened the underlying muscles and made her bust firmer, so her old bras are the wrong shape.

I would start with 38 DDD or 40 DD bras, to get the same cup volume as the 42D.

Since she's active, she might like the Wacoal Sports Underwire Bra 85510. It's a high impact bra (for running, jumping, and It comes in both sizes and has a special strap adjustment to prevent rubbing while she moves around. And, it comes in pretty colors (as well as the usual beige and black).

Glamorise High Impact 9066 Sports Bra has wrapped wires so they won't rub against her skin. It has lots of support and comes in both sizes. Note that it is a UK bra so the 40DD is the same, but the 38DDD would be 38F).

When she's not working out, the Wacoal La Femme 853117 has a lace underband and a pretty striped bow. It gives great lift and it's cut low so it won't show under v-necked tops. There's a bit of padding for modesty, not bulk or size. The leotard back will help keep the straps from slipping (sometimes a problem with shorter women). It comes in both sizes.

There's also the Olga Signature Support Satin Underwire 35002, which has smooth, satiny fabric and no lace to show under clothing. There's an inner sling for better lift and support. It comes in both sizes.

        Hope this helps!

    57. Hi, I am 45, with large and saggy breasts that come down to my stomach. I wear a 40DD. Are there any suggestions that can help lift up and away from my stomach. Also under wire bothers underneath the breast.

      ReplyDelete
    58. Hi,

Sometimes a cup that’s too small can cause the underwire to dig into your chest, so make sure you have measured yourself correctly. Sagging will also look worse (even with a bra) if the band is too big.

You might want to try going up a cup size or two and down a band size.

That said, while you generally won’t get the same support from a wire-free bra, there are a few options you can try.

The Glamorise Magic Lift 1000 has arched seamed cups, which will help give you better support and shaping. The band has an inner cushion for better lift and to stop uniboob. The back and sides are smoothing to keep bulges under control. And, it comes in several different colors besides the usual beige, white, and black. You can also get burgundy and gray in your size.

Another option is the Elomi Cate Soft Cup Bra EL4033. This also has no wires and both arched and vertical seams. The arched seams give you a rounded shape and support, while the vertical seams help lift. There are also support panels hidden in the sides. The panels will help push you forward and give you a better shape.

Finally, there’s the Chantelle Amazone Soft-Cup Bra 2102

This bra gives great support, even without a wire. It’s the soft cup version of the bra at the top of the page. It has sheer lace on the top of the cups and pretty embroidery for looks. Horizontal seams and side panels give you great support and shaping. It is a bit more of a pointed look, so keep that in mind.

This is in European sizes, so you’ll need a 40E to get the equivalent of a 40DD.

The first is the Amazone 2101 listed at the top of the page. It has shorter wires, so it is less likely to poke you. It also has great support, so it will help counteract any sagging issues. It does have a band, but you said in your other comment that your weight isn't in your stomach, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Another option is the Elomi Etta EL8840. That's bandless and has seamed cups (vertical and transversal) for a more rounded shape and better support and lift. It's got side panels, which will push everything forward and pretty lace on the top of the cups.

There's also the Elomi Tia EL4280, which is built on the same "chassis" as the Etta. It's really a knockout too, with lace along the top of the cups, and the sides and back. The back is a deep leotard, which will help keep the straps from slipping, and it's built up on either side of the clasp, to help keep back fat under control.

Or, you might try the Panache Envy Balconnet 7285. It has a combination of a houndstooth print and lace, which is really quite striking. Shorter wires will make it more comfortable for you. It's also got side panels to push you forward, as well as stretch lace for a better fit.

    60. Thank you for this post! Bra shopping is such a struggle. What might you recommend for someone who is small (32A) and also sagging from intensive breastfeeding? I can't find anything to fit now! I would appreciate any guidance. I've been trying bras from The Little Bra Company but I've yet to find anything that fits well.

      1. Hi MIchele,

Your body can change a lot after breastfeeding, so you may find that one side shrinks more than the other, or you are a different shape than you were before.

Also, you didn't mention your height. Little Bra Company bras are designed for women who are both small-busted and petite. The cups are closer together and angled differently. If you are average height, or if you have a longer torso relative to your legs, that brand likely won't fit you.

You might try the Timpa Mesh Underwire Demi Bra 16800. It has stretchy cups that can help hide different size/shape breasts. The cups are molded so that they will give you a rounded shape, without adding size.

On Gossamer Mesh T-shirt Bra 013800 has a good, supportive underwire which will help with the sagging and give you better lift. The straps can be worn several different ways, including criss-crossed, which helps pull you up.

If you would rather have a padded/push up bra, the On Gossamer Bump It Up 3201 comes in tons of different colors. It is padded, so you will look bigger, and get better cleavage. It does run a bit small so you might have to size up.

    61. Hi!
I am a 32 dd and have very dense, bottom heavy breasts...I need to find a bra that lifts my breasts up above the wire...if the bra does not the wire begins to rub because my breasts are not supported...cut n sewn bras work best...please suggest a very supportive bra that will lift my breasts over the wire...I have lots of fibrous tissue...vertical seams work best!

      Replies
      1. Hi Kasey,

If your bra isn't lifting your breasts above the underwire it's not supporting you properly. You're right that cut-and-sewn bras with vertical seams will give you better support and better lift.

Since you are shallow, demi cup or balonnet bras are a better option than full cup or full coverage bras. The shape is better since there is less material on the top of the bra and it won't pucker where you have less tissue.

You might try the Chantelle Le Marais Demi Cup 2375. It's a lined (but not padded or molded) bra (with pretty scalloped lace both over and under the cups. It's the replacement for the Chantelle Merci demi (which has been discontinued - but would also work if you can find your size). It comes in EU sizes so you'll need a 32E.

Another option is the Simone Perele Delice Demi Cup Bra 12X330, Another drop dead gorgeous bra with sheer mesh and the vertical seams you want for support. This is also in European sizes (32E for you) and comes in lots of colors.

There's also the Freya Fearne AA4093 Demi Cup. This has not one, but two vertical seams for great lift and support. The cups have a pretty leaf print with eyelet trim. It has both angled and vertical seams which will give you support, lift and shaping. This comes in UK sizes so you'll need a 32DD.

        Hope this helps!

    62. Hi Heather,

You’re right in that the side boning will help stop the band from rolling up. If it’s digging in, it may be because you are either short or have a short torso.

What can help is a bra with powernet or simplex fabric (kind of like control top pantyhose) or a support panel on the sides. A panel or stronger fabric along the bottom of the cups will give you more lift and help with the sagging.

Another trick is to look for a bra with seams. A seamed bra, particularly one with vertical seams, provides more lift and support than a seamless style, although the seams might show through clothes depending on what you’re wearing.

Bandless bras with arched centers are also likely to be more comfortable, particularly if you carry weight in your stomach, or if you are short.

You might try the Elomi Cate (EL4030). The vertical seam on the cups will give you more lift and the transverse seam will shape and round. The lower part of the cup is made of simplex (the control fabric) for better support.

There’s also control fabric on the back and sides, which will help keep the bulges under control. It has side support panels (which push you forward and center your tissue), but no boning. And, it even has pretty embroidery.

The Elomi Carmen (EL410) is really pretty with lace along the top of the cups and on the center panel. It is bandless and has an arched center, so it will be more comfortable if you have a larger stomach. There are vertical seams for lift and angled seams for shaping and rounding. The lower part of the cup has heavier simplex fabric which will also help lift and support.

It comes in pretty colors too (like red, fuchsia, and periwinkle blue, as well as beige and black).

There’s also the Goddess Kayla (GD6162) which has a five (!) part cup for fantastic support and lift. There’s control fabric on the sides and back, and stiffer fabric on the bottom of the cup. These combine to give you bulge control, more lift, and centering. It has side support panels, but no boning.

If you're tired of plain beige and black, this bra comes in pretty floral prints, a red damask, leopard, and brown zebra.

Of course, there are times when a seamed bra just won't work, like under t-shirts. The Elomi Amelia (EL8740) has no seams to show through clothes and it’s made of spacer fabric so it’s lightweight and comfortable.

The embroidery on the sides of the cups cleverly conceal support panels that will push you forward. The sides and back are also made of control fabric for support and bulge control.

    63. Hi Stacy,

Ouch! A couple of things to keep in mind. First of all, when you go up a band size, the cup gets bigger, even if it’s the same letter designation. So, a 40DD cup is *bigger* than a 38DD cup. To get the same volume, you’d need a 40D (unless you are spilling out of the cups too). Start with a larger band, then adjust the cups accordingly.

Second, to get more lift you’ll normally want a 3-section cup (which won’t be padded), slings, or support panels. A band will also help, but that could dig into your stomach.

Finally, the underwire shouldn’t poke through. This can happen if you are wearing a band that’s too big (which doesn’t sound like the case), if you wash it in warm water, or if you dry it in the dryer. Make sure to use cool water and hang dry (preferably hand wash too).

Here are a few options (which come in both 40D and 40DD).

First there’s the Vanity Fair Flattering Lift 76212. It’s contoured (for a smooth look and nipple control) and has graduated padding on the bottom for more lift. It’s bandless and has an arched center panel, which will be more comfortable for your body shape. There’s also a pretty lace detail along the tops of the cups. It comes in beige, white, and black.

Bali Lace with Lift 3L97 is also contoured with a bit of padding for shaping and support. This style has slings inside the cups (at the bottom and sides) for better lift and support. The side slings will also help push you forward. It’s also got the arched center and no band for comfort. There’s lace along the top of the cups and in the center, so it’s both practical and pretty. Comes in white, beige, tan, and black.

      Elomi Amelia Spacer Bra EL8740

This one is particularly pretty. There’s a lace detail on the sides of the cups, and two bows on the straps. The spacer fabric helps reduce the weight and keeps you cooler when it’s warm out. It’s a T-shirt bra, so it will hide nipples. There’s side support panels for lift and support. And, even though it’s a t-shirt style, there are seams cleverly hidden under the lace (which means better support) that won’t show. The bandless style and arched center panel should be more comfortable for your stomach and height. Comes in red, beige, and black. This is cut more generously than the others.

Fayreform Profile Perfect Contour Spacer F72-9098

This has many of the same features as the other bras: spacer foam, bandless front, and an arched center panel. The cups have a pretty floral pattern and the straps are embroidered. There are side seams and boning for better support on your sides and to help push your tissue forward and up. Comes in pearl, latte, pink, and black.

      Hope this helps!

    64. I'm 51 and can't seem to find a bra that fits me properly. I've been fitted so many times and each bra I've purchased either hurts after wearing it for a few hours or doesn't give me lift or support. I lost weight and now my breasts are sagging and now uneven. I've tried underwrite, padded, not padded I can't seem to find a good fit!! I was measured at a 32d but it was too tight in the band, I went up to a 34d and the band was too big. I'm right in the middle, more a 33 in the band. I don't want alot of padding but something with lift, full coverage and support and not spend a ton of money either. Any suggestions for my problem?

      ReplyDelete
    65. Hi Katie,

There are a few ways to get around the “they don’t make odd-numbered bands” problem. You can look for bras with larger bands (yes, just because they all say 32 doesn’t mean the band is really the same length!). Or, you can try something with a stretchier fabric that will expand to fit you better.

Then there’s simply changing the length of the band. You can use an extender (for the 32 band) or a tightener for the 34 bands. The extenders hook on to your band in the back and give you extra length.

The tightener (RIxie clip) works a bit like a belt slider. You hook it on and slide the band through the clip to make it smaller.

Or, if you have a tailor or can sew, you can get a 34 band and take it in. Note that if you are really a 32D, you’ll need a 34C, not a 34D to get the right cup volume.

As for the sagging, look for better quality bras (Wacoal, Freya, Fantastie), etc. that have slings, stronger wires, and side boning. That will give you better support, lift, and shaping. So will a bra with seams.

Here are a few options with excellent support and either stretchier fabric or longer bands.

First, there’s a Marks and Spencer Jacquard Lace Non-Padded Full Cup Bra T337105/. This is inexpensive, and you can get their bras on their US site (which is confusingly called Marks and Spencer London). It’s a full coverage, and is made of stretchier material. It’s lace, and seamed for shaping and lift. It is, however, not wired, so it won’t give you as much lift as a wired bra will. It is more comfortable though.

The Wacoal Lace Embrace Contour Bra 853191 band is both stretchy and a bit longer in the band. It’s a t-shirt bra embellished with lace, under the cups and along the band so it’s smooth and pretty at the same time. The bra is contoured (meaning it’s thicker than an unlined bra) and will maintain its shape when you aren’t wearing it. It’s not padded though.

Then there is the Freya Pulse AA1991, which has sheer mesh and great support. It’s got a longer band size and will give you great lift and shaping. There’s reinforcement on the sides and on the band which will give you more support and help push your tissue up and forward.

The Wacoal and Freya tend to cost more than the M&S bra, but t have found (the hard way) that a good bra (or anything else) is eventually cheaper than a cheap one, even if you have to buy fewer of them. Look for a good deal with a sale and you can save some money.

      Hope this helps!

    66. Hi I'm 18 36D and I've had saggy breasts for as long as I can remember. I've been wearing classic lines bras from stores like Pink and Aerie and have only just realized that they do nothing to support me. What bra would u suggest for a lift that also does not make a cone shape. Is there a bra that will help make my breasts appear lifted and rounded? I also have a larger stomach and am 5'7 but I believe my torso is on the shorter side. Thank you for your help.

      ReplyDelete
    67. Hi Teenage Kween,

Yeah, VS Pink and Aerie tend to be padded, push up, and not really suitable for larger busts. They also don't support all that well (or last well).

If you have a shorter torso, and larger stomach, you’ll be more comfortable in bras that are bandless, meaning there’s no fabric under the cups, and that have an arched center panel. This will help keep the bra from digging into your stomach, or your ribcage, especially if you are sitting down.

I’ve listed several options below, and tried to keep it budget-friendly with a mix of lined and unlined bras (both t-shirt and not). The t-shirt bras are smoother, and may be "padded" (meaning thicker) and rounder. The seamed bra will give you better lift and support. If you can swing it, go for the better ones, it is worth it, since they are better quality and last longer. I also tried to keep it sleek and fun looking. At age 18, the last thing you need is an “old lady” bra!

      Warner's Cloud 9 Underwire Contour Bra RB1691A

A super-soft, comfortable bra made of a knit material that won't itch or irritate your skin. This will give you the lift and rounded shape you are looking for. There is some padding, but not enough to make you look bigger (just smoother). The straps adjust in the front, so it's much easier than usual to get them the right length (you don't have to take the bra off to adjust it). There’s no band and the center is arched, both of which will make it more comfortable if your torso is short or if you have a larger stomach. The bra is completely smooth, and there is no lace or bows to show under your clothing.

Comes in white, pink, almond, berry, petal print, and black.

Natori Pure Luxe Contour Underwire Bra 732080
This one is a bit pricier, but you might get a deal on a sale. The straps have embroidery on them for an extra bit of glam, but it’s not an old lady bra. It has great support so you’ll get the lift you want. It’s also bandless and has an arched center, which are more comfortable for your body shape and shorter torso. The center panel is wider, so it's best if you are wide-set.

This is available in tan, lilac, blue, gray, plum, leopard, and floral prints (some with contrasting scroll straps)

OnGossamer Gossamer Mesh Convertible T-Shirt Bra 013800

This is a straightforward, classic style that's totally smooth with just a bit of lace trim on the edges of the cups. The center is arched, and its bandless, which should be more comfortable for you. It also can be worn criss-cross or halter (and the straps come off in both the front and back to make it easier to change them). Lots of fun colors in shades of tan, pink, red, blue and black.

OnGossamer Beautifully Basic Lace Back Plunge Bra G3933

Excellent lift and shaping, with a low neckline (great for summer tops). This one has a J-hook so you can wear it as a racerback (and the straps won’t show under sleeveless tops. It’s also bandless and has the arched center. There’s a bit of padding, but it’s not bulky. Oh, and the back and sides are lace. It's best if you are wider set and shallow.

Comes in tan, blue, pink, and black.

Wacoal Basic Benefits Unlined Underwire Bra 855290

This one has great lift and exceptionally supportive underwires. The floral lace cups are seamed for better lift, shape, and support to keep everything up, centered, and lifted where you want it to be. There are extra support panels on the sides, which will help push you forward and eliminate the east-west look. There’s no band and the center is arched so it won’t hit your stomach. Since it’s unlined, there’s no padding. You will get great lift, but it might show under thinner tops. It's got a wider center panel, so it's better if you are wide set.

This comes in beige, red, blue, and black lace with a shaded ombre effect.

    68. I am 54 years old. 5'9", 175 lbs and wear a 38B. I am sagging bad and would like to find a bra that can lift me up. What do you suggest?

      ReplyDelete
    69. Hi,

First of all you’ll probably be more comfortable in a bandless bra, particularly if you have a larger stomach. Since you are tall, you’ll also need a bra with longer (or fully adjustable) straps.

And, of course, supportive underwires to give you the lift you need.

Wacoal Soft Embrace Underwire Bra 851211

This is a new style which has a bandless front (more comfortable if you have a larger stomach). It also has fully adjustable straps, which is good for you, since you are tall. The cups are completely smooth, and the straps and center are decorated with lace. It’s not a t-shirt bra, so there’s no extra bulk. It does have excellent support and will lift you up where you belong. It comes in white, beige, light blue, and black.

Chantelle Basic Invisible Memory Foam T-Shirt Bra 1241

If you’d rather have a t-shirt bra, this one will adapt to your shape (thanks to the memory foam; the heat of your body activates it). The material is super-soft and comfortable and it’s smooth so nothing will show under your clothing. There’s just enough contouring for modesty without being heavy or bulky. It also has fully adjustable straps, so it will be long enough for you. The band is a little big so you may have to adjust your sizing (down a band and up a cup). The 3/4 cup works in your favor here, since it will help hide the sagging while giving you lots of lift and support.
Comes in beige, toffee, peacock, and black.

If you want something fancier, the Chantelle 2756 has the same fit with a lace overlay on the cups (also the option to wear it as a racerback).

Another option is the Wacoal Body by Wacoal Seamless Underwire Bra 65115

This is made of a special fabric that feels like cotton, but will help keep you cool in hot weather. The cups are molded (shaped, but not stiff) and stretchy for a better fit. It’s bandless and the straps are fully adjustable. It’s completely smooth with no lace or decoration other than a mesh insert in the straps and between the cups. That will also help keep you cooler. It comes in beige, white, and black.

Finally, there’s the Vanity Fair Body Shine Floral Full Coverage Contour Bra 75297. The cups on this one have a floral design, but it’s flat and won’t show under your clothes. The straps are long and the bra is bandless for a better fit for your body type. The underwire supports you without being uncomfortable. This comes in beige, white, and black.

      Hope this helps.

    70. So many truths. You truly are an expert. I'm 66 yrs of age. Rarely had the right bra size. Finally someone measured 28" around my rib cage and cup size US FF. Years ago I stumbled on Rigby Peller who made their own bras at that time- but no longer. They fit perfectly. But now what? I need a properly enginered bra - excellent band support around the rib cage and lift on the straps ( without digging in)which better bras have but I need one that will also lift the breasts from underneath so that there is less weight pull on my shoulder . The side panels are very helpful but is there one that will also sling from underneath the lift the breast?
      Thank you -

      1. Hi Alexandra,

Hey, if Rigby Peller was good enough for the Queen...I'm going to assume you meant to type UK size 28FF, since US bras don't come in that size (it would be US H).

The band does most of the lifting, so that's the key to support. Then the side panels push you forward, and (for a seamed bra) the seams give you a rounded, lifted, or pointed shape depending on the direction of the seam.

Panache Envy Balconnet Bra 7285 has side slings to push you forward, and it's really pretty, with a houndstooth pattern, topped with floral lace. The cradle design and the vertical seams give great support (particularly at larger cup sizes) and provide lift too. And the straps are fully adjustable so you can get them just the right length.

Freya Starlight Hero AA5201 has excellent support and lift, plus the side support panels to push you forward and together, rather than down or east/east. The cups have both angled and vertical seams, which will give more lift and help shape and round your bust.

Cleo by Panache 9011 leo by Panache 9011 has a stretchy upper cup so it will mold to your body and provide a better fit. There's an additional elastic band on the bottom, which keeps the bra more stable and supportive. It's got seaming to lift and shape (good when your bust is large!) And the leotard back helps keeps the straps in place without slipping.

      1. Hello,

The Fantasie FL4520 should check all your boxes. It's not padded, it gives great lift and support, and cleavage. And, it's particularly good for implants.

The band runs a bit big, so you might want to size down a band and up a cup to 38DD.

I have had five amazing children who I breastfed and it has taken the toll on my breastsl, they have lost their fullness and have always been very saggy, my nipple almost hits my stomach. Since I am pretty thin I want a bra that is MORE pointed than round, one that lifts and is contoured because I usually wear t-shirts. I have a couple of seamed bras which lift but the seams show through and I am not symmetrical so each side it not filled the same. I have tried everything and have spent a fortune on trying to solve my problem. Thank you so much for your blog!

      2. Hi Ruby,

I'm afraid that if you want a pointy look you're going to have to have seams. That's what makes the bra pointier, particularly horizontal seams. And the vertical seams give you lift.

That said, a bra with side slings or boning will help push everything forward and give you a more projected look.

Wacoal Basic Beauty T-shirt Bra 853192 is contoured, so it won't show under your clothes. Since it has the side slings, that will help with the projection. And, it's made of spacer fabric, so it's lightweight and cool. The cups are stretchy, which will help with the asymmetry. And it comes in both 30 and 32DDD.

Panache Cari Spacer Bra 7961 has smooth cups and pretty lace trim along the bottom. It's got slings inside to pull tissue out and up and push everything forward. And the material is stretchy, for a better fit. This is a UK brand, so your size normally would be 30 or 32 E. However, this style is running small, so you might want to go up a cup size to F.

Now, if you are willing to put up with seams to get the pointier look you want, Chantelle Amazone Underwire Bra 2101 has exceptional lift and shaping. The side panels will move you forward and the seams are fairly flat.

    73. Hi Jodi,
You really seem to know your stuff. I am a 32H (or a 32GG, 32I, rarely any more but in some of the U.K. brands like gossard 34G; i find their bra but I can't stand most their bras because i find they dig into my armpits) I am 5'5.6" tall 133Lbs small round tummy that is low due to 3 c-section and a very short torso my actual legs measure 34.3" for inseam. So Mentioned the belly because I am 41 but have a 4year old and we spend alot of time playing on the floor where a lot of bras dig into the top of my tummy. I am quite shallow on the top half so i hate bras covering the top of my breast because it always looks like the bra has space unless it has pushup pads which i don't need. Plus again he underwire will dig in. I am 33 around but almost all 34" bras are too big in less than a month and 32" i find more comfy under the arms as i am close set making them mostly out front and the fullest part of them are low. I like demi half cups but can't seem to find any in my size they are all made for a smaller cup in my band and assume i want my whole breast covered which like i said make the gap up top, which usually means go done a size which either way digs into my arm pit with the full coverage and it will still gather unless i bend over. Just don't have any fullness up top (i say it almost lines up with my hair line at the bottom of my armpit where my breasts get full) it was this past 2years it has started to become a great discomfort, ( i went up a size) and i have tryed some where around 20 bras. Then after buying I'm stuck with it as shopping online for size is my only option in this town even though I live in Las Vegas, you'd think they'd have something with all the showgirls in a town like this...but apartently most are smaller though they so don't look it (but most have fake breasts and those just look bigger which baffles me) i have been measured and fittied in more store than i can count with the same surpise that i wasn't wrong about my size. I love my body naked but without a bra that works i am just uncomfortable and hate the way everything fits. Any suggestions? Should i send a list of which i bought

    74. Hi Bonnie!

      Thanks!

You might try Wacoal 857210. It's good for shallow shapes, and the bandless style will be more comfortable on your ribs and stomach. There's elastic along the edges of the cups to fit better.

Chantelle C Magnifique 1891 has stretchy cups, which will also give you a better fit. There's no band and the center is arched (more comfortable for shorter bodies).

Or, there's the Wacoal 855378 which is designed to help keep you cool and comfortable (which should be good while you are rolling around on the floor with your child. It's got stretchy molded cups which will fit better and won't show under clothing. And the front is bandless too.
